Songs of the ‘Noucentisme’ period
Excellent concert to celebrate the feast of Santa Cecilia. Elena Copons (soprano) and Jordi Armengol (piano) offered a program with Catalan songs written during the first decades of the twentieth century, which followed the new aesthetic of the moment. Toldrà, Serra and Rodrigo find inspiration in the poems of Carner, Sagarra and Verdaguer. Topics such as nature, love and mankind are present in these songs. In the six Catalan pieces harmonized by Robert Gerhard and premiered in Vienna with great success by Conxita Badia, attendees could appreciate the ingenuity and originality of accompaniments that respect and maximize the melodies of the songs.
